The second stage in the Hockey Alberta Inline Team Alberta program is the Canada West Cup. This event is held on the opposite years of the Alberta Summer Games. Players are selected to compete in the Canada West Cup based on their performance at a provincial selection camp. At the camp each player receives a mark from a panel of coaches and evaluators. The top players and goalies are identified and put into a draft. The pre-selected and trained coaching staffs then draft the competitors onto teams for the competition.

This event is an integral part of Hockey Alberta Inline’s (HAIL) Team Alberta Program and is designed to develop and showcase Western Canada’s best Inline hockey players in birth years 1993, 1994 or 1995 (ages for summer 09).

The 2009 Canada West Cup Competition will be at Millenium Place in Sherwood Park, AB, July 23-26, 2009. The event will include a 1-day team training camp and a three-day competition. The team-training day will consist of two practices, team building sessions, and extra curricular activities. The competition will consist of a round robin tournament format.
